Improved Fitness Can Equal Improved Mental Health

May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Physical Fitness and an often-not-talked-about benefit of fitness is how it can improve your mental health.

Feel Better in Body and Mind with Physical Fitness

Exercising regularly will increase the production of endorphins, the feel-good chemicals in our brain, which can help reduce feelings of stress and anxiety. This is a key aspect of Physical Fitness and its impact on overall well-being.

Exercise can also help improve sleep quality. Getting adequate sleep is vital to maintaining positive mental health, and exercise has been shown to be an effective way to promote better sleep. Increasing your physical activity can also improve self-esteem and confidence.

If you aren’t currently doing any form of exercise, my suggestion is to start trying to get in two days of some form of physical activity weekly. This doesn’t have to be going to the gym! Don’t get me wrong, going to the gym to lift weights and get some cardio in is a great thing to do. But you can also do something like start walking more.

Maybe you buy a basketball and start shooting around at a local hoop. Or even throw on some chill music and stretch at home for 20 minutes. There are so many forms of physical activity that are easily accessible; the key is finding something you enjoy!

Whatever activity you choose to do, try to make it a regular habit, and ideally, you will feel your overall mood and mental health elevate. Meet with a coach to build a plan that fits your needs and lifestyle.
